The battle of life

Why is it that we have so many people suffering and feeling hopeless? Why can’t they find strength within themselves to overcome that emptiness? Why do we have the mentality that we can do it all if we just put our minds into it? Don’t take me wrong, yes we have the power to do amazing things when we put our minds into it but there is one thing that we cannot do on our own and that is defeat our enemy.

The battles of this life are not against people. Ephesians 6:12 says “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

But who are the rulers, authorities and powers of this dark world? You can call them “dark energy”, “the enemy”, “bad luck” or whatever you feel like it. The Bible calls them  the devil and pretend it doesn’t exist is the same as ignoring the thieve that just stole your neighbors house. The devil is real and Jesus said that he came to steal, to kill and to destroy us (see John 10:10).

Let’s face it, we have all been through spiritual attacks. But how can we defeat them? Let me tell you…WE CAN NOT!. But the good news is that JESUS ALREADY DID FOR US.

The devil is something that we cannot see so we cannot fight against him physically right? How can we fight them then? Spiritually. That’s when our faith comes in. That’s when we use our mind, our heart and our soul and put in practice the Word of God. That’s how I overcome my trials. That can sound a little too vague for some so let me be more practical. So many times in my life I had to go against what “life” was bringing my way. I then stop and remember the verses where God promises me that my life is supposed to be an abundant life (see John 10:10 again). An abundant life is not strictly financially, but abundant in health, in peace, in joy, in love…in anything that is good. Instead of being heads down and depressed or even getting mad at my husband for something that we were disagreeing on I usually stop and think about who is creating all that chaos. Who wants me down and depressed? Who wants me to fight with my husband? Who wants me to be angry and hopeless? Nobody but him…the enemy of my soul.

We all agree that life is a battle right? How much easier it is to win the battle when you know your adversary’s strategies? So much easier!

Our enemy will try everything he can to make us fight at home, feel miserable at work, feel insure, guilty about something, uncertain about our future etc, etc, etc… Don’t believe in that! I pray that God will give you spiritual eyes for you to identify the enemy when he comes so you can fight him back with the right weapons.

In this case it doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican (sorry I couldn’t miss the joke) but we all have access to the weapons. Our weapon is knowing Jesus and putting in practice His teachings. He says in John 8:31 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” It’s a great thing to go to school and graduate from College but you will only make money from it when you use what you learned right? Same here, its a great thing to know Jesus but in order for you to see the fruit of His teachings you need to put in practice what you have learned from Him.

Take heart! The troubles of this life can be a great testimony of His power in your life. Jesus gave us His Holy Spirit to help us in the midst of our trials as he guides and comforts us through it.

If you are facing a hard time in any area of your life, I want to encourage you to put your head up and remember all the 3573 promises in the Bible that God has in store for you. If you don’t remember them like I don’t, that’s even better, (haha got you) get yourself a Bible and start getting to know them. A life full of hope, joy, love and peace is waiting for you just around the corner!

For His Glory,

Fernanda
